Clearly there aren't any pictures up yet of the babe or new mom, but I'm sure that baby is gorgeous. Here's to hoping that mommyhood doesn't drive Xtina crazy like it did her pop star counterpart, Britney Spears. Speaking of Britney, apparently she has to go court again to try one last time to get her visitation rights back after that meltdown she had last week. Ironic.

I usually don't like to comment about pop culture and that drama, but I was trying to get my mind off the crazy antics going on for the race to the White House. Obama did drugs (old news) and he wants the black vote (old news), and he's stepping on some Clinton toes to get it. It's backfired on him and he's losing support and funding. I have to admit I don't like when candidates push on the others to get more votes (mostly because it never seems to work), but I still support him. I really don't think that Hillary is a strong enough candidate to be the first woman president. She will constantly live in the shadow of her husband in the sense that if she makes a good decision, it will get credited to Bill and all her bad decisions will get marked against her gender.

Well, its a snow day so I am going to try and accomplish all the things I didn't do during the weekend This mostly includes cleaning my room, filling out candidate application forms, doing homework, and trying to figure out my music equipment more so that I can record the song I wrote recently. Obviously that song will break here FIRST when its done.

r

your own personal moon.

I want one of these so bad. Russian designers came up with this light box shaped like a huge (or I suppose, tiny) moon. Although it looks entirely too bright to actually sleep with, there is something so lonesome and romantic about it, which as most people know, I dig. Its practically performance art! I still have not found a manufacturer, or really where anywhere to buy it, so I have started to come up with plans to make my own. How hard could it be? I should look in the pages of ReadyMade Magazine for hints and tips. To start, I would have to build a shell out of pliable balsam sticks ( I want this moon to appear natural). Then, take paper lantern material and cut it to shape, laying it over and securing the paper to the frame. The main difficulty for me would be figuring out how to illuminate it, although what first comes to mind is taking groups of LED lights from IKEA that run off battery and putting those within the frame. If this is the method used though, I would need to build some type of trap door in the moon so that I may change the batteries. I'd shy away from using lights that plug in, simply because I enjoy the idea of the moon being completely transferable while lit. This would make for many good photo opportunities.

Also: I have decided that to never become old, you must already be teaching your old self new tricks. I will write more on this later, but so far this weekend, I have begun to learn how to drive stick, and also learned how to wire speakers for a high end stereo system.

r

3 Days of Mourning.

I'm sorry, Pakistan.

tricks and their consequences

went and saw the Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen last night with Tom. Dentist Says Breast Rubs Necessary
Monday, October 15, 2007

WOODLAND, Calif. — A dentist accused of fondling the breasts of 27 female patients is trying to keep his dental license by arguing that chest massages are an appropriate procedure in certain cases. Mark Anderson's lawyer says dental journals discuss the need to massage the pectoral muscles to treat a common jaw problem.

Police say Anderson said during recorded phone calls that he routinely massaged patients' chests to treat temporo-mandibular joint disorder, or TMJ, which causes neck and head pain.

Attorney Robert Zaro told administrative law judge Jonathan Lew at a hearing Thursday that he should let Anderson keep his dental license while disciplinary appeals proceed. Anderson would be supervised by two assistants and would no longer do the chest rubs, Zaro said.

Zaro said Anderson, 48, of Woodland, needs to keep seeing patients so he can feed his seven children and pay for his defense.

The judge made no immediate decision.

Lew suspended Anderson's dental license last month. He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery and sexual battery. Yolo County prosecutors are investigating complaints from more than two dozen women who say they also were groped in the examining chair in the last five years.

Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Phillips gave Lew three new complaints, including one from a 31-year-old woman who said Anderson fondled her at least six times over two years.

She took to wearing tight shirts with high necklines, "and Anderson would still get in under her shirt and bra," according to a police report.

serious?

"French police have made five arrests over an attack on a painting by Claude Monet in Paris, France's AFP news agency says, quoting judicial sources. The weekend hasnt been a total bust. Actually i had a pretty good weekend thanks to my friends. Also, my cousin Mike is back from italy and surprised me by bringing my other cousin Scott over (whom i havent seen in a year and a half) and taking me out to dinner at an indian restaurant downtown. Scott is here on business this week so I get to see them both again on wednesday for sushi.

Ive been reading about this "my personal moon" idea from some russian designers (just google it) and i want one. It seems like a lonely concept but then again, boston is a lonely place. The rain with the view out my window completes it. regardless, having more contact with my friends and fam, and other small pleasures (namely, little boy sport jerseys at urban renewal) remind me things arent terrible.

ps dreams ive had lately
1. failing clinical psyc (-)
2. the tee pee village (+)

oops.

what a total bummout. sigh. and on top of that, i dont even get to go to six flags tomorrow! alright enough for today, heading over to emelie's so that i dont waste a whole 4 day weekend.

you win some and you lose some.

well the weekend was great, but the week has been.. kind of a bummout. Thursday night went up to my parents house to pick up a text book and do some laundry. Also got to go to Red Arrow with Bri, did some errands, and went to the deerfield fair with Kristen and her amazingly awesome family. Came back down Saturday and went to the farmers market which i love. got so much amazing produce for cheap. also got to check out an energy efficient fair. Unfortunatly the one bad thing that happened was i totally misunderstood when the jazz fest was going on and i missed all of it! Luckily,my friend matt came down for his bands show and we did lots and lots of walking, and saw some of the weirdest stuff, like these two old dudes jumping out at us, the harvard kids on bikes, and some guy at the grocery store. we were at the grocery store trying to get some vegan food and were having a hard time finding it. I jokingly yelled "I'm trying so hard to appease you!" and this dude walks by and goes "good luck!" hahaha. anyways. good weekend.

oh yeah! the above pictures are of the two paintings that we found in the trash!

weekends are short.

... even though I have three day weekends every week...

I'm so tired. I have been home from Japan for almost exactly two months... a saddening statement. I miss my friends very much, and this is snowballed by the fact that my introduction to a social life in Boston has been slow... I have made some good girl friends in my program though. A lot has happened since I last posted and I probably cant do a good job of bringing anyone who reads this up to speed, so I will just apologize and move on. As of this week, I only have a month and a half left of being in Japan and this has increasingly become the topic of my dreams (pseudo nightmares). Please don't misunderstand, I will be happy to see my friends and family when I get home, but to be honest, my personal life has gone to shit while I was gone. No more boyfriend, don't even KNOW whats going on with that, haven't talked to most of my friends since I got here, upheavals in my family, and the idea of being put back into my ho hum life, killing myself for two years in my master's program, and just continuing on without dreams or adventures, EGH. I am also moving to a new city where it looks like I might not have any friends, Oh yeah, and my computer has about 8 viruses, probably including the one that I hacked up on it because Ive been sick all week. I really need to see my best friend, Scott. Excuse the metaphor, but that kid is my lighthouse.

Anyways, onto pictures of my trip to Okinawa.

The view of Mount Fuji from the airplane.

Tunnel leading out of the Underground Naval Base.

Missing pieces of history at the Naval Base

Steps leading up to the entrance of the Shuri Castle.

My feet standing on the glass over the original foundation of the castle.

Glass making at the Glass House in Forest.

Enormous tank containing two whale sharks at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.

One of the many sea turtles at the Aquarium.

On the way to the beautiful beach in the Okinawa Expo Park

Cave Dwelling in the Gyokusen Do at Okinawa World.

The dissent into the caves.

Attempting to make brown sugar at Okinawa World.

Not a great picture of the Manzamo Cliffs.

A friend at the Manzamo Cliffs.

Another friend somewhere in between.

The impossible task of getting back home.

Thats an abbreviated version of Okinawa. In fact, I used to go once a week with the boyfriend (Tom of tommyvon.net) to visit some of my favorite sea creatures such as myrtle the turtle. So imagine my dismay, as I had not been to an aquarium in almost a month! Today I remedied this with my friends Alyssa and John and headed over to the Shinagawa Aquarium. While the aquarium is small compared to the Boston aquarium, there are some amazing things to see. I watched a dolphin show as well as viewed some of the largest sharks I've ever seen in real life. The kicker though, was the above pictured underwater tunnel. all i can say is SEGOI! there were sea turtles, sting rays, fish swimming everywhere. I went through twice. There are other aquariums here in Tokyo that I want to go to, but I will probably visit this one again soon.

Other than that, things are going really well. Ive been getting pretty good grades with some effort, and Golden week started this weekend, so my trip to Nikko is coming up! (as in.. we leave in 36 hours) So get ready for some amazing pictures of onsens, waterfalls, and volcanoes... oh yeah. life is good.

Sunday at Harajuku.

Free Hugs.

Went into Harajuku this weekend for a school project. Crazy place, lots of stuff going on, nice things to look at and be dazzled by. We focused mainly on the Meiji Shrine here and were lucky enough to witness a wedding (rare). After the field trip, we split up and hung out in the fashion area for a little while, but didn't stay long due to a previous engagement. By previous engagement, i mean, I had to head over to a cafe for a photo shoot for Kirin beer, one of the premier breweries in Japan. They did hair and make up and then just took pictures for two hours. After the two hours, they served amazing hamburgers and gave everyone involved 10,000 yen (about 100 dollars) amazing! So now I guess I'm a paid international model...? haha, Ill try not to let it get to my head. The pictures will be used and around in July, so I will keep my eyes out for them.

oyasumi nasai!

just a thought.

oh hey, I'm having the time of my life.

xo.

Narita Drum Festival.

Main Event at the Narita Drum Festival.

Went to the Narita Drum Festival yesterday with IES. Pretty amazing stuff and some excellent drumming from all ages. At one point, I would have said the best part of the day was finding this beautiful waterfall in the woods, but on our way back through the waterfall was TURNED OFF. Thus, it is a cheater and so it doesn't count. Last night was karaoke in Tsudanuma, and it will be interesting to see the pictures that came from that... I got some well needed musical bellowing out. Felt good to scream at the top of my lungs because I feel like I've been whispering everywhere else. Japan is so quiet. This Tuesday marks the end of my first month here. Some parts have been amazing, some have been really rough, but thats really all you can ask for. This experience is whizzing by too fast, but I just received news that I will, in fact, be able to attend Northeastern regardless of the fact that my transcript is going to come in late, as well as my diploma. So once I get home, I am moving down to Boston for sure. Alright time to go study for my kanji quiz tomorrow. xo

Ueno Park

The sakura (cherry blossoms) in Ueno Park.

Today I went to Ueno Park to see the last of the cherry blossoms. It was probably the most perfect day to go, with temperatures up and the skies clear. While the picture doesn't describe the beauty of it all, it at least gets the point across. There are temples hidden here and there between the trees and food vendors, as well as partying groups of people sitting on tarps, drinking beer and eating lots of nice smelling food. There is also a zoo in Ueno, and I got to see among many, polar bears, penguins, elephants, gorillas, and large birds of prey. At night, they light up lanterns and the place is transformed. You have to be careful though, because at this point, everyone is drunk and people stumble into you easily or get aggressive. Either way, the experience of sitting on the ground, eating roasted chestnuts, and having the sakura trees pour down it's blossoms onto your face and body will make you think a little differently about the life you have. At least temporarily.

Downtown Tokyo trip.

saki, me, ian, alyssa, and john at the Jodo Shu Main Temple

A few days ago, IES and the epals took us on a field trip into downtown Tokyo. As pictured above, one of the biggest attractions was the Jodo Shu Main Temple. It is incredible. We were lucky enough to witness a supposedly rare Buddhist spring song ceremony. Also, right behind the temple is Tokyo tower, which we also got to go to. This is really the last week of sakura so all the trees are in full bloom, with petals all over the ground. It feels magical and movie like. Needless to say, I am bummed that they are going to shed completely soon and thus, start the rain season. With that, another picture of the area, and I need to begin my new day after a very long (but very awesome) night.

Tokyo Tower peaking through the sakura.

kombanwa.

Tsudanuma at night.

That is good evening in Japanese. Yes, the rumors are true. I am in Japan. As of yet, I don't know if I even believe it. I made some fast friends at orientation, including some Japanese friends, and had a great time. Now I have moved into the dorms and am feeling a little uneasy. Like most new things, it will take some getting used to. I have already fallen into trouble when I lost my dorm key within hours of moving in, but my dorm manager, Kato San, has helped and given me a spare. Regardless I feel foolish, and spent all of today avoiding her.

Today also marks a new accomplishment. I ventured out into town for the first time alone tonight. It is about a 20 minute walk / 10 minutes by bus into town. I walked this evening to time it, and happened upon many strange thoughts along the way. It is an interesting mix between being stared at, and being ignored completely. Also, the town seems to always be bustling, even on a Sunday night, as opposed to American where we prefer to order take out and stay inside. I live in a beautiful little section of town, in the suburbs of Tokyo.

it is very quiet here, other than the occasional alarm, and these strange cars I see with microphones on top. I believe they are selling things, but I don't know for sure. As you can see, the buildings are beautiful and the street lights were just coming on as I set out. I have had a lethal dose of homesickness lately that I would only full admit to my boyfriend, and so I walked into town to buy myself some little sweets. At an earlier trip with fellow IES students, I saw in the grocery fresh pastries that seemed very popular, and I hoped I would be able to find the store myself tonight. My sense of direction is still on, and so I easily found them.

These things are incredible! So far I have only eaten the chocolate one. While many chocolate cakes with creme have filled me up and seemed to weigh me down, this cake was light and airy, and after I finished it, I didn't feel the least full. Amazing! I had to wait the entire walk back to eat them though, as it is very rude to eat in the streets in Japan. Finally I will leave you (I am about to take a hot soak thanks to my new friend and partner in crime, Atsumi who taught me how to turn my hot water on) with a picture I found funny and awkwardly American.

Haha, they are like little golf carts carrying Domino's Pizza. This picture would be better if it were Papa Gino's, but I had no idea Domino's was world wide. Bizarre.

Time for a hot soak before I write my postcards and fall to sleep. Tomorrow I have to head to school in the morning, go through some more orientation stuff, get a cell phone with John and Atsumi, and hopefully find a way to see Alyssa as well after my beginners Japanese class.

oyasumi nasai!
(goodnight!)

beginning of the beginning.

sanfran 005, originally uploaded by regismary.

welcome to san francisco, the first stop on a long trip. Sources said 50-year-old John Acerra, of Allentown, was naked and watching gay pornography when they arrived at Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem to arrest him on Tuesday. Acerra also had sex toys, drugs, cash and a pipe in his school office when authorities stormed his office, the sources added.

full story here.

seriously?
